Synopsis

Show Me a Hero (2015), Season 1 is the HBO miniseries you can watch online on iFILM — six parts about a single housing fight that tore a city in half, all episodes in good quality.

It draws on what actually happened in Yonkers in the late 1980s. At twenty-eight, Nick Wasicsko (Oscar Isaac) becomes the youngest big-city mayor in the country and inherits the order that will destroy him: a federal court demands public housing be built on the white, middle-class side of town. The season runs on two tracks. One is City Hall, where the council stalls, the judge runs out of patience, and old allies peel away. The other belongs to families stuck in West Yonkers' crumbling projects, for whom the new townhomes mean a way out, not a talking point. The arc moves from a brutal vote through construction to the screening of who gets in.

Directed by Paul Haggis and written by David Simon of The Wire, it's a small, exhausting political tragedy rather than a loud election drama — interested in the cost of doing the right thing. Catherine Keener, Alfred Molina and Winona Ryder fill out the cast. Stream Show Me a Hero online on iFILM.
