Synopsis
Show Me a Hero (2015) is an HBO miniseries you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Paul Haggis from a script by David Simon, the creator of The Wire. Oscar Isaac plays Nick Wasicsko, who became mayor of Yonkers, New York, at twenty-eight — and immediately inherited a federal court order requiring the city to build public housing in its white, middle-class neighbourhoods.
The order split the city in two. Council meetings turned into screaming matches. Politicians ran on the fear. Wasicsko tried to do what the law required and paid for it in stages: his career, then his marriage, then his sense of self. Running alongside his story is a portrait of the families waiting for those housing units — played by Ilfenesh Hadera, Dominique Fishback, and LaTanya Richardson Jackson — people whose lives hung on decisions being made blocks away by people who would never meet them.
Alfred Molina, Bob Balaban, Winona Ryder, and Jon Bernthal round out a cast that Simon deploys the way he always does: no saviors, no villains, just the machinery of a city grinding. Six episodes. Stream Show Me a Hero on iFILM.
