Synopsis
"Hello Again" (2017) is an American musical drama to watch online on iFILM. Director Tom Gustafson adapts Michael John LaChiusa's 1994 off-Broadway musical, itself reworked from Arthur Schnitzler's 1897 carousel play "La Ronde." Ten love stories, ten eras, one figure passed from pair to pair. The ensemble includes Audra McDonald, Cheyenne Jackson, Martha Plimpton and Jenna Ushkowitz.
Each vignette occupies a distinct period, from the distant past to the present, and Gustafson gives each its own visual register. LaChiusa turned Schnitzler's structural game into a song cycle; the film turns it into something that blurs eras intentionally rather than explains them.
This is chamber musical cinema — wordy, performance-driven, intimate. If you want a full theatrical spectacle, look elsewhere.
