Synopsis

Transit (2018) — watch online the German-French drama directed by Christian Petzold and starring Franz Rogowski. Georg flees occupied France carrying the papers of a dead writer. He makes it to Marseille, where a visa and a ship to Mexico wait — but so do endless delays, checkpoints, and an administration that processes refugees with bureaucratic patience.

While waiting, he meets Maria (Paula Beer), who is searching the city for her missing husband — the man whose identity Georg has taken. The film layers the 1940s refugee crisis onto modern Marseille: contemporary trams and cafés run alongside roundups, informers, and blank-faced officials. The anachronism is deliberate. Time collapses, and the trap feels permanent.

Rogowski carries the film on near-silence — a man hiding from authorities while falling in love with the wife of the person he is pretending to be. Petzold's control of this near-impossible premise is what makes the film worth seeking out. Stream Transit (2018) online on iFILM.
