Synopsis
Fireworks Wednesday (Chaharshanbe Suri, 2006) is an Iranian drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Asghar Farhadi. The whole story unfolds across a single day — the eve of the Persian New Year, when Tehran fills with bonfires and bursts of firecrackers.
Rouhi, a cheerful young woman about to marry, is sent to clean an apartment for the holiday. She walks into a household coming apart. The wife, Mozhde, is convinced her husband is cheating and all but forces the maid into the role of spy: follow him, find out the truth. Rouhi ends up trapped between the couple's lies and suspicions, and what she uncovers starts to shadow her own hopeful plans. The cast is led by Hedieh Tehrani, Taraneh Alidoosti and Hamid Farokhnezhad.
This is early Farhadi, years before his two Academy Awards, yet his signature is already visible: an ordinary marital quarrel tightens into a moral thriller where everyone is partly right and partly to blame. The festive fireworks outside only grow more ominous. It suits viewers who like chamber dramas with no villains and no easy answers.
