Synopsis
What Maisie Knew (2013), a drama from Scott McGehee and David Siegel starring Julianne Moore, is yours to watch online on iFILM. A marriage falls apart in New York: the mother is an aging rock singer, the father an art dealer, and six-year-old Maisie is wedged between them.
The custody fight turns ugly, yet neither parent has much time for the child herself. She gets forgotten at pickup, shuttled back and forth like awkward cargo. The steadiest hands turn out to belong to two near-strangers: young stepmother Margo, once the nanny, and stepfather Lincoln, a bartender her mother married partly out of spite. Almost everything plays out at Maisie's eye level, the camera lingering at a kid's height while adults talk over her head.
The script lifts Henry James' 1897 novel into a present-day city, and the move lands cleanly. Onata Aprile carries it with a single watchful look rather than dialogue. A quiet, aching film for anyone willing to watch grown-up selfishness through the eyes of a child who understands more than she lets on. Stream What Maisie Knew (2013) online on iFILM.
