"Grand Designs" (1999) is a British documentary series you can watch online on iFILM, hosted by Kevin McCloud. Each episode follows people who take on wildly ambitious self-build projects — converted churches, coastal cliffs, derelict warehouses — and tracks the construction from the first shovel to moving-in day.

The appeal has never really been interior design. It's the gap between what people plan and what actually happens: budgets double, groundwater appears where it shouldn't, marriages are tested. McCloud visits at key stages, asks the uncomfortable questions, and withholds his verdict until the building is done.
