Synopsis
Kuntilanak (2018) is an Indonesian horror-comedy by director Rizal Mantovani, available to watch online on iFILM. A group of kids enter an abandoned house as part of a reality show challenge — the goal is to prove on camera that the kuntilanak, a feared female ghost from Javanese folklore, is nothing more than superstition.
They brought the wrong confidence into the wrong house. An old mirror at the back of the building holds the kuntilanak, and she has been waiting for children to arrive since long before anyone thought to film it. Sandrinna Michelle leads the cast in a film that moves between genuine dread and dry genre comedy. Rizal Mantovani directed the original Kuntilanak trilogy starting in 2006 — the reboot carries the same feel for the mythology, light on its feet right up until it isn't.
