Synopsis
Deathgasm (2015) is a New Zealand horror-comedy you can watch online on iFILM. A teenage metalhead and his new buddy dig up the sheet music to an ancient hymn, play it, and tear open a gateway that floods their sleepy town with demons.
Brodie has just moved in with his churchgoing uncle, landing a bully of a cousin and instant outcast status. Then he meets Zakk, a fellow heavy-metal devotee, and with a couple of loser friends they start a band. At a rehearsal they get hold of torn pages from a black hymn, and soon the neighbors have gone hollow-eyed and hungry, while Brodie's crush on Medina hangs in the balance of an apocalypse.
Jason Lei Howden's debut is old-school splatter: geysers of blood, chainsaws, sex toys swung as weapons, and a soundtrack nailed to black metal. The humor is crude, the gore proudly handmade, and the Peter Jackson nods land right on cue. If you love the Evil Dead films and trash that swaps morals for a guitar riff, this one rips.
