Mexican revolutionary Quintero is rotting in a fortress prison guarded by a brutal commandant. His lieutenant crosses into America with a fistful of cash and hires Chris, who spends the rest assembling a crew — a demolitions man, a knife-thrower, a close-combat expert among them. To crack the fortress they spring political prisoners and forge a ragtag army out of them. The odds stay ugly and the assault only turns when help arrives from a direction nobody planned for. Kennedy plays it grave and unhurried instead of imitating Yul Brynner, and the result is a sturdy late-cycle western for fans who like the genre plain.
