Synopsis
Geronimo: An American Legend (1993) is a Western directed by Walter Hill — watch it online on iFILM. It's 1885, and the U.S. Army has deployed five thousand soldiers to stop one man: Apache leader Geronimo, portrayed with real gravity by Wes Studi. With barely thirty warriors, he keeps slipping across the Mexican border while Washington's patience runs dry.
The film follows a young lieutenant played by Jason Patric, whose narration frames the campaign from close range but without comfortable heroism. Gene Hackman plays the brigadier general driving the pursuit, Robert Duvall the seasoned scout who knows this land and its people well enough to be uncomfortable with his own role — and an early Matt Damon appears in a small but visible part. Hill treats the material as a cold procedural rather than a myth, which is exactly what makes it land differently from most cavalry westerns of its era.
