Synopsis

Twenty-one-year-old Mehmed II takes the throne and wastes no time signalling Byzantine emperor Constantine XI what is coming. Into the besieged city steps the Genoese soldier Giustiniani with his hired men. From there the season works like a slow autopsy of a siege: tunnels clawed under the towers, a naval blockade, the audacious haul of a fleet overland into the Golden Horn, and cannon fire grinding ancient stone to gravel. Each episode hinges on one decision with no way back.
