Rune Balot and a badly wounded Oeufcoque barely escape Boiled, the assassin tracking them since the first film. Dr. Easter pulls them out and takes the group to Paradise — a place inside the Mardock system that holds the answers to Boiled's history and the crimes Balot was supposed to die for. This chapter is slower than The First Compression: less chase, more weight. Megumi Hayashibara voices Balot with deliberate restraint, which suits a character still figuring out what she's willing to become before the final film forces the choice.
