Synopsis
Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead (2023) is a Japanese horror-comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Director Yusuke Ishida adapts the hit manga with a backwards premise: the undead don't ruin Akira's life, they hand it back to him.
For three years Akira ran himself ragged at a soul-crushing ad agency, screamed at by his boss and chained to endless overtime. He'd become a hollow corporate drone. Then the dead rise and flood the city, and instead of terror he feels relief. No more office. So he grabs a notebook and writes down a hundred things he always wanted to do before he goes. Day-drink a beer. Ride a motorcycle across the country. Confess to the girl he likes. Eiji Akaso plays him with a goofy, contagious joy, while Mai Shiraishi and Kazuki Kitamura round out the survivors he picks up along the way.
What sets it apart is the color: acid-bright, almost neon, a deliberate break from the grimy gray palette zombie movies usually wear. The blood is candy-red and the mood is closer to a festival than a funeral. Great for anyone burned out on bleak survival horror who wants something that laughs at office life.
