Synopsis
The Windermere Children (2020) is a historical drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Michael Samuels. In the summer of 1945, three hundred young refugees arrive at the Calgarth Estate beside an English lake. Each of them has come out of the camps; some are barely old enough to remember anything else.
None of them speak English, and none know what this strange, quiet place is meant to be. A small team — a psychologist, an artist, a sports coach — sets out to give them back sleep, play and the nerve to trust an adult again. Iain Glen and Romola Garai lead the caretakers, while Thomas Kretschmann plays a sculptor who hands the boys clay so their hands can say what their voices cannot.
Drawn from the survivors' own diaries and interviews, the film closes on the real faces of those children decades later. It works in a low key, never pushing the grief — a study of how slowly a wound like this ever heals. Stream The Windermere Children (2020) online on iFILM.
