About
Synopsis
"The Fascist" (Il Federale, 1961) — watch online on iFILM. Italian war comedy from director Luciano Salce, with Ugo Tognazzi and Georges Wilson. Northern Italy, 1944: dim-witted Fascist militiaman Primo Arcovazzi is ordered to arrest anti-fascist professor Bonafé and escort him to Rome. Simple on paper.
The road trip unravels into a succession of disasters as the regime itself collapses around them. Tognazzi's Arcovazzi keeps enforcing rules that no longer apply; Wilson's professor, wiser and calmer, watches him with something between pity and amusement. Stefania Sandrelli appears in one of her early roles. A dark comedy that plays the farce completely straight. Stream "The Fascist" online on iFILM.
