Synopsis
Goodnight, Ladies and Gentlemen (1976) is an Italian satirical comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Five master directors team up to spoof a full day of programming on a made-up TV channel.
The day's lineup is gleefully vile: a newscast the anchor reads while digging in his nose, an English lesson that slides into a striptease and a stabbing, a TV-movie about a police station with a ticking bomb, an interview with a professor pitching cannibalism as a cure for overpopulation, and a sadistic game show that electrocutes the loser. The Italian title is Signore e signori, buonanotte.
The sketches come from Mario Monicelli, Ettore Scola and Luigi Comencini, and the screen is packed with Italy's comedy royalty — Mastroianni, Gassman, Tognazzi, Manfredi, Villaggio. The humor runs pitch-black and openly hostile to television itself. For anyone into 70s political satire, it's essential viewing. Stream Goodnight, Ladies and Gentlemen (1976) online on iFILM.
