Let's Rob the Bank

Let's Rob the Bank (Faites sauter la banque!, 1964) is a French comedy directed by Jean Girault, starring Louis de Funès — stream it online on iFILM. Parisian gunsmith Victor Garnier puts his family's entire savings into an African mining venture on his banker neighbor's advice. The very next day, the mine is nationalized and the shares are worth nothing.

Victor's response is not a lawsuit. He calls a family meeting and announces they will dig a tunnel straight to the bank's vault. The banker stole from them; getting it back counts as justice. De Funès is at peak form here — explosive, flustered, propelled by that specific brand of comic outrage that made him France's biggest box-office star of the era. The plan grows more absurd with every scene, and the finale involving the vault and a rather large explosion delivers exactly the satisfaction the Garnier clan deserves.
