Synopsis
Welcome, or No Trespassing (1964) is a Soviet comedy you can watch online on iFILM, the debut feature of director Elem Klimov. Underneath the sunny story of a children's summer camp sits a sharp little satire of petty officials and empty pomp.
Young Pioneer Kostya Inochkin swims across the river to the forbidden bank, and for that the camp's strutting boss, Comrade Dynin, throws him out in disgrace. Going home is impossible — the shock would finish off his grandmother. So the boy sneaks back in, and the whole troop hides him, scheming to wreck the big Parents' Day that Dynin is staging like a military parade. Yevgeny Yevstigneev plays Dynin, and his face alone is half the comedy.
Censors nearly shelved the film, reading the blustering camp director as a jab at the entire system. Today it stands among the warmest and cheekiest Soviet films about childhood. It rewards those who grew up on it and anyone curious about the early hand behind Come and See. Stream Welcome, or No Trespassing (1964) online on iFILM.
