Synopsis
Furie (Hai Phượng, 2019) is a Vietnamese action thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Director Le Van Kiet built the film around Veronica Ngo, whose earlier work includes Star Wars: The Last Jedi — and she carries every frame of this one on her own.
Her character gave up a life running a criminal crew, moved to the countryside, and raised a daughter far from anything dangerous. When traffickers grab the girl, she doesn't call the police. She goes after them herself, town by town, across the waterways and back streets of southern Vietnam. The hand-to-hand sequences were choreographed around Vovinam, a Vietnamese martial art — no wires, no CGI assist, and Ngo did her own fighting throughout.
Furie became the highest-grossing Vietnamese domestic film at the time of its release and put the country's action cinema on the global map. It works as a pure adrenaline piece, but the mother-daughter relationship grounds it enough to matter. Stream Furie (2019) on iFILM.
