Synopsis
Catch a Fire (2006) is Phillip Noyce's political thriller, and you can watch online on iFILM. It follows the real Patrick Chamusso, a foreman at the world's largest synthetic-fuel plant in apartheid-era South Africa — a man who wanted nothing to do with the struggle.
Patrick keeps his head down: a job, a wife, a home. Then the security police pin a sabotage attempt he never committed on him and torture a confession out of him anyway. The worker who walks out of that cell is no longer apolitical. Derek Luke charts the slow hardening of an ordinary man into an insurgent, while Tim Robbins plays the state interrogator for whom cruelty has become paperwork. The two paths tighten toward each other.
Noyce isn't making a poster. He's tracing how repression manufactures the very enemies it dreads — push an innocent man far enough and he becomes the threat you imagined. Shawn Slovo, whose own family was scarred by apartheid, wrote the script, and that closeness shows in the small things. Tough, uncomfortable, and built on a true ending worth discovering.
