That awkward push sets off a quiet rebellion: discovering her own body, her desire, the city after dark, and people her mother spent a lifetime keeping at arm's length. The title refers to the thirty-seven seconds Yuma went without breathing at birth — the sliver of time that set her life on a different course.

The lead is played by Mei Kayama, a first-time actress who has cerebral palsy herself, and her presence strips the film of any trace of pity.
