Synopsis
SHIMONETA: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn't Exist (2015) is a Japanese comedy anime you can watch online on iFILM. Sixteen years after a public-morals law scrubbed coarse language out of society, vulgarity is basically a crime.
Tanukichi Okuma enrolls at the country's most upright elite school, partly to be near its flawless star student Anna Nishikinomiya. Almost at once he's blackmailed into SOX, an underground group founded by the brazen Ayame Kajou. Their "terrorism" is contraband — banned jokes, lewd doodles and pamphlets hurled at a sterilized society that has forgotten such things exist. And Anna, the supposed picture of purity, turns out to be anything but.
Studio J.C.Staff plays this as gleeful satire of censorship: the tighter the ban, the more absurd the ways people break it. The humor is raunchy and squarely for adults, yet the premise — a culture that outlawed the very idea of a dirty joke — lands sharper than this kind of comedy usually bothers to. Twelve episodes, ending on a defiant note. Stream SHIMONETA online on iFILM.
