Valentin

Valentin (Valentín, 2002) is an Argentine tragicomedy from Alejandro Agresti that you can watch online on iFILM. Set in late-1960s Buenos Aires, it follows an eight-year-old boy in thick glasses and a toy astronaut helmet who lives with his grandmother and dreams of reaching the stars.

His mother is gone, his father drifts in and out with a string of girlfriends, so Valentin decides he's the only one who can fix everyone's life — find his dad a wife, find himself a mother, befriend the lonely pianist downstairs. Agresti draws heavily on his own childhood, which is why the film stays so warm and unsentimental. Young Rodrigo Noya carries the title role, with Spanish star Carmen Maura as his grandmother.
