Character

Character (キャラクター, 2021) is a Japanese crime thriller from director Akira Nagai, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Keigo Yamashiro draws manga with real skill, but his villains fall flat — he's simply too gentle a person to imagine genuine evil.

One night rewires everything. On a sketching assignment, Keigo walks into a slaughtered family and comes face to face with their killer. He never calls the police. Instead he pours the murderer's features onto the page, and the manga he builds around it becomes an overnight hit. The problem: the real killer is reading every new chapter. Each fresh victim mirrors the plot, as if artist and murderer are now playing the same game.

Masaki Suda plays Keigo, while musician Fukase of Sekai no Owari makes his film debut as the chillingly calm killer; Shun Oguri and Shido Nakamura round out the cast. This one's for viewers who love watching a creator and his monster slowly trade places. Stream Character (2021) online on iFILM.
