Synopsis
Time Out (L'Emploi du temps, 2001) is a French psychological drama from Laurent Cantet that you can watch online on iFILM. It follows a man who loses his job and can't bring himself to tell his wife or his children.
Vincent spent years as a consultant. The position is gone now, but every morning he still drives off "to work" — circling the motorways, killing time in roadside cafés, parking for hours outside someone else's office tower. To keep the illusion alive he invents a glamorous new contract in Geneva and uses it to coax money out of his friends. One lie demands the next, until covering yesterday's story becomes a full-time job of its own.
Aurélien Recoing plays quiet panic with almost no dialogue, while Karine Viart is the wife who senses trouble long before she can name it. Cantet didn't make a thriller; he made a cold study of how the emptiness of a missing workday hollows a man out, loosely echoing the real Jean-Claude Romand case. Slow, patient cinema for anyone who values European drama without big gestures. Stream Time Out (2001) online on iFILM.
