Synopsis
The Replacement (El sustituto, 2021) is a Spanish-Belgian thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Spain, 1982. Young police inspector Andrés Expósito takes a posting in sleepy coastal Denia, hoping the sea air will help his ailing daughter and that the job will be calmer than the one he left in Madrid.
The calm lasts about a day. The inspector Andrés came to replace turns up dead, and the newcomer has to untangle the case alone. The trail leads somewhere nobody wanted opened: behind the quiet retiree faces, the town shelters former Nazi officers who settled on the coast after the war. The deeper Andrés digs, the more the locals would rather he stopped.
Director Óscar Aibar builds a slow, sun-baked mystery about a resort town guarding Europe's filthiest secret. Ricardo Gómez plays a man who works out too late what he has walked into.
