Synopsis
The Endless Trench (La trinchera infinita, 2019) is a Spanish historical drama you can watch online on iFILM, co-directed by Jon Garaño, Aitor Arregi and Jose Mari Goenaga. In Andalusia in 1936, newlyweds Higinio and Rosa see their marriage swallowed whole by the Spanish Civil War — and by Higinio's decision to hide from Franco's firing squads in a pit dug beneath their own home.
What starts as days stretches into months, then years, then decades. Antonio de la Torre plays Higinio — a man for whom the boundary between hiding and disappearing gradually dissolves. Belén Cuesta plays Rosa, who maintains a normal surface life outside while protecting the secret underneath. Their bond, tested across thirty years in a few square metres, is the entire substance of the film.
The story draws from the real history of the topos — Spaniards who spent years, sometimes whole lifetimes, concealed from the regime. At 148 minutes the film takes its time deliberately, letting the weight of that confinement settle in. Stream The Endless Trench (2019) online on iFILM.
