Synopsis
Quo Vadis, Aida? (2021) is Jasmila Žbanić's war drama, available to watch online on iFILM. It's July 1995 in a small Bosnian town just overrun by Serbian forces, and thousands of terrified civilians are crowding onto a UN base for protection. Among them is the family of Aida, a former schoolteacher now working as a translator for the Dutch peacekeepers.
Jasna Đuričić carries the entire film. Her Aida is one of the few who grasps what the officers are really negotiating behind closed doors — and she can see the blue helmets won't stop what's coming. Her husband and two sons are stuck outside the gates, so she works every corridor, every list, every checkpoint, trying to pull them through to safety. Each passing minute narrows what she can still do.
Žbanić reconstructs the days around the Srebrenica massacre through a single woman who can't scream and can't walk away — her job is to be the calm voice relaying other people's verdicts. The film represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Oscars in the international feature category and swept honours across European award ceremonies.
