Two Worlds

Two Worlds (Les Deux Mondes, 2007) is a French fantasy comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Director Daniel Cohen knocks dreary Paris up against a wild parallel realm that the hero drops into straight through the floor.

Rémy Bassano (Benoît Poelvoorde) is a mild-mannered art restorer whose life caves in all at once: a flooded workshop, mounting debt, no job, and a wife who's walked out. At rock bottom he moves back in with his parents, then falls through a hole in the floor into another world entirely. There, the tiny Begameni tribe groans under the cannibal tyrant Zotan and has waited generations for a savior. The locals instantly take the baffled Parisian for their promised messiah, never mind that Rémy can barely run his own life.

Cohen stages this Belgian-French production as a comedy about a small man shoved into heroism against his will, and Poelvoorde carries it on his trademark hangdog charm. Light, ironic escapism rather than serious fantasy. Stream Two Worlds online on iFILM.
