Synopsis
Reclaim Your Brain (Free Rainer – Dein Fernseher lügt, 2007) is a German satirical dramedy from Hans Weingartner, ready to watch online on iFILM. Rainer churns out trash TV — a show where a woman picks a father for her child, fake news with a loose grip on the truth — living large on drugs, a slick flat and a beautiful girlfriend, right up until he hits rock bottom.
He decides to blow up the machine from the inside. Rainer gathers a crew of fellow dropouts and starts rigging the audience meters by hand, boosting smart programming and tanking the dumb talk shows. The bigger his stunt grows, the harder the networks fight back — to them, a dull viewer is pure profit.
Moritz Bleibtreu (Run Lola Run) plays it with the jittery drive of a man sick of lying for a paycheck. Weingartner, who made The Edukators, takes aim again at consumer culture, this time at television and the way it shapes taste. One for fans of angry, idea-driven European cinema.
