Synopsis
The Yin Yang Master (2021) is a Chinese fantasy adventure you can watch online on iFILM. Director Li Weiran adapts the popular Onmyoji game, set in a world where humans and yokai monsters share the same reality.
Seven years ago the yin yang master Qingming was accused of stealing the Scaling Stone and killing a colleague, and he has been an outlaw ever since. When his band robs the official Yuan Boya, Boya chases the loot straight into a hidden realm of spirits. Trouble is already brewing there: forces hungry for the ancient artifact are ready to start a war, and the magical stone ends up swallowed by one of Qingming's ferret familiars. To stop the coming catastrophe, Qingming has to accept his own split nature — half man, half monster.
Lavish costumes, painterly otherworld landscapes and a whole menagerie of spirit familiars carry the film, which runs on visual scale and the bond between a man and the creatures most people fear.
