Synopsis
The Five Venoms (1978) is a Shaw Brothers kung-fu classic you can watch online on iFILM. A dying master sends his final student to track down five earlier pupils of his Poison Clan, now scattered across the country.
Every one of the five mastered a different animal style — Centipede, Snake, Scorpion, Lizard and Toad — and each hides his identity behind it. The young man has to work out which of them would turn that skill toward a buried fortune, and stop whoever does. Here's the catch: the venoms don't all know each other by face, so for half the film the hero is guessing right alongside you. It's a whodunit wrapped in martial arts.
Director Chang Cheh assembled a cast that fans later nicknamed the "Venom Mob," after this very film; the same group went on to make dozens of movies together. The fight choreography leans on each style's distinct animal movement rather than on gore. A cult favorite for old-school Hong Kong action lovers, still name-checked across pop culture decades on.
