Synopsis
Appleseed: Ex Machina (2007) is a Japanese cyberpunk anime you can watch online on iFILM. Director Shinji Aramaki built the sequel in glossy photoreal CG, with action legend John Woo on board as producer.
The year is 2133, decades after a war that wiped out half the planet. The city of Olympus runs on a supercomputer named Gaia, and many of its officials are bioroids — engineered humans with the rage edited out. ESWAT operatives Deunan and Briareos get thrown at every crisis that hits the utopia: cyborg terror cells, nanotech zealots, citizens turning on the streets. Then a complication lands closer to home, right between Deunan and her cyborg partner.
The story comes from Masamune Shirow's manga and follows the 2004 film. Gunfights are staged like a Hong Kong shootout — Woo's fingerprints are all over the choreography.
