Synopsis

Fausto chases every woman in sight while his pregnant wife waits at home. Leopoldo scribbles a play no theatre will stage. Alberto drinks and clowns to avoid thinking. Riccardo dreams of fame, and quiet Moraldo watches the late trains and senses he has to get out. Summer turns to a cold, empty winter, the carnival ends, and nothing changes for anyone but the boys themselves.
Half autobiography, this early Fellini film captures idle youth and small-town restlessness years before his surreal masterpieces. It features a young Alberto Sordi and the director's brother, Riccardo Fellini. The picture won the Silver Lion at Venice and later shaped filmmakers from Scorsese to George Lucas.
