Synopsis
Whisky Galore! (1949) is an Ealing Studios comedy you can watch online on iFILM. It's wartime, yet the disaster striking a tiny Scottish island has nothing to do with bombs: the place has run bone-dry of whisky.
The men mope about in black like mourners — until a cargo ship founders on the rocks nearby with fifty thousand cases of Scotch in its hold. What follows is a covert, island-wide scramble to spirit the bottles ashore before the excise men and a fussy Home Guard captain can stop them. The script grew out of a real 1941 wreck off the Outer Hebrides, where locals genuinely made off with crates of whisky ahead of the authorities.
