Synopsis
Renoir (2012) is a French period drama from Gilles Bourdos that you can watch online on iFILM. The setting is the Côte d'Azur in the summer of 1915, with the war grinding on far to the north. Aged painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, his hands twisted by arthritis, still works every day — and a new model walks into his garden: red-haired Andrée.
She brings the old man back to his colors. Then his son Jean comes home to recover from a battlefield wound, and the future filmmaker falls for the same woman. What follows is a quiet, charged triangle between father, son and muse. Michel Bouquet plays the painter in his final years, Christa Théret his last model, Vincent Rottiers the wounded Jean.
Cinematographer Mark Lee Ping Bin, who shot In the Mood for Love, makes every frame look lifted off an Impressionist canvas — dappled light, warm skin, a garden dissolving into pastel. It's slow, sensual, and gorgeous, made for anyone who loves painting and unhurried French cinema. Stream Renoir (2012) online on iFILM.
