Appleseed Alpha

Appleseed Alpha (2014) is a fully CG-animated sci-fi action film you can watch online on iFILM, based on the manga by Masamune Shirow, the creator behind Ghost in the Shell. Set in a post-World War III wasteland, the story follows soldier Deunan Knute and her cyborg partner Briareos as they carve through the ruins of New York, chasing rumours of a city called Olympus — supposedly the last organised haven for humanity.

The film serves as a prequel to the main Appleseed timeline and was directed by Shinji Aramaki, who had already put the franchise into CG with earlier entries. Every frame is dense with combat and debris; quieter moments exist mainly to remind you how bad things have gotten.
