The Tasting

The Tasting (La Dégustation, 2022) is a French romantic comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Director Ivan Calbérac pairs two people who seem to share nothing in common: a sour cellarman named Jacques and Hortense, a nurse who can barely tell red from white.

Hortense (Isabelle Carré) has a wide-open heart and almost no one to give it to — just her cat, her bitter mother, and the homeless men she feeds a proper dinner every week at the parish hall. She walks into Jacques' shop for a single bottle and ends up at one of his shambolic tastings, fending off a friend's clumsy flirting and meeting a young apprentice with a startling gift for wine and zero filter. As the two loners drift toward each other, old wounds resurface. Bernard Campan plays Jacques with a dry grumpiness that makes the thaw all the more disarming.
