Synopsis
This Crazy Heart (Dieses bescheuerte Herz, 2017) is a German drama directed by Marc Rothemund — watch online on iFILM, starring Elyas M'Barek and Philip Noah Schwarz. Lenny is thirty-something, broke in the comfortable way of someone whose father covers the bills, and not particularly interested in growing up.
Then his father hands him a responsibility he can't easily dodge: look after David, a fifteen-year-old with a congenital heart condition and a very short runway. David has a list of things he wants to do. Lenny, having avoided responsibility his entire adult life, turns out to be exactly the wrong — or right — person to help him check them off.
Rothemund doesn't squeeze the premise for maximum tears, which is exactly why the film earns them. M'Barek plays the transformation without announcing it, and Schwarz gives David enough edge that he never tips into sentimentality. Stream This Crazy Heart (2017) on iFILM.
