Synopsis
Weekend Rebels (Wochenendrebellen, 2023) is a German tragicomedy you can watch online on iFILM. Ten-year-old Jason, who is on the autism spectrum with Asperger's, has set himself one mission: pick the football club he will support for the rest of his life.
The catch is his checklist. Dozens of oddly specific criteria mean no team passes on paper — he has to judge each one from the stands in person. So Jason and his father Mirco climb into the car and spend every weekend at a new stadium, from the top of the Bundesliga down to muddy lower-league grounds. The road trips bring the two closer than ordinary daily life ever did, and quietly show how hard a dad has to work to reach a son who sees the world on his own terms.
Florian David Fitz plays the father, with newcomer Cecilio Andresen as Jason; Aylin Tezel and Joachim Król round out the cast. Director Marc Rothemund adapts Mirco von Juterczenka's autobiographical book "Wir Wochenendrebellen" and keeps the tone honest instead of sugary — this is a film about acceptance, not about "fixing" a different kid.
