Synopsis
Tigertail (2020) is Alan Yang's quiet drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Pin-Jui barely speaks to his daughter, and he never talks about the choice that shaped him: half a century ago he left a Taiwanese factory floor for New York, chasing a bigger life. What he found was a marriage of convenience and years of grinding work.
The story drifts between two timelines. In the past, a young Pin-Jui (Lee Hong-chi) dances in cheap clubs with the girl he loves, then trades her for a one-way ticket. In the present, the same man — now Tzi Ma, his face shut tight against feeling — tries and fails to reach his grown daughter Angela (Christine Ko). Joan Chen plays the wife who became a stranger in their own apartment.
Yang, co-creator of Master of None, built his directing debut from his own father's life. It is slow, restrained, and aching — a film about immigration and the cost of words left unsaid. Stream Tigertail (2020) online on iFILM.
