Synopsis
Heroic Losers (La odisea de los giles, 2019) is an Argentine crime comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Sebastián Borensztein. In a sleepy town in Buenos Aires province, a group of neighbors pools their savings to revive an abandoned grain silo and bring jobs back to the area.
They deposit the money in the bank one day before Argentina's 2001 financial collapse freezes every account. Their savings vanish. Worse, it turns out a slick lawyer, working with the bank manager, quietly siphoned their deposit out ahead of the crash. The law offers nothing, so the townsfolk decide to take it back themselves and plan an audacious heist on the hidden vault where the cash is stashed. Ricardo Darín leads as the stubborn Fermín, sharing the screen with his real-life son Chino Darín.
Borensztein films this working-class revenge as a warm tragicomedy — not a glossy caper but ordinary people who outsmart a system that robbed them. It won the Goya for Best Ibero-American Film.
