Memory: The Origins of Alien
Before Alien, there was Starbeast. Before Starbeast, there was… Memory.
Synopsis
Memory: The Origins of Alien (2019) is a documentary you can watch online on iFILM. Alexandre O. Philippe traces where Ridley Scott's Alien — and its most infamous scene — actually came from.
The film centers on screenwriter Dan O'Bannon and artist H.R. Giger, whose nightmares ended up on screen. Philippe follows the threads back to the Greek Furies, Egyptian myth, underground comics, and the paintings of Francis Bacon, then works through how the creature took shape out of a shared unconscious. One chapter sits with the chestburster sequence, recalled here by original cast members Tom Skerritt and Veronica Cartwright.
This is a movie for people who've already rewatched Alien and want to take it apart: less on-set anecdote, more argument about myth, authorship and dread. Philippe, who did the same forensic job on the Psycho shower scene in 78/52, digs into symbolism rather than trivia. Stream Memory: The Origins of Alien (2019) online on iFILM.
