Synopsis
Little Girl Blue (2023) is a French-Belgian documentary drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Mona Achache opens the archive of her late mother and tries to work out who she really was.
When Carole Achache died, she left behind thousands of photographs, letters and tape recordings. Her daughter makes an unusual choice: she asks Marion Cotillard to step inside the mother's image — to wear her clothes, speak her words, and bring her back in front of the camera. The border between document and reenactment dissolves.
The result plays like a séance of family memory, where a daughter's self-interrogation meets a major actress at work. Cotillard isn't performing a part in the usual sense; she lends her voice and body to someone else's life. The film premiered at the Locarno Film Festival. A quiet, personal study of inherited grief.
