Synopsis

Fabienne is a celebrated French actress who has just published her memoirs. Her daughter Lumir flies in from New York with her husband and young child, opens the book, and finds a polished fiction: fond anecdotes, flattering self-portraits, and almost nothing true about their life together. The confrontation unfolds at dinner tables and in dressing rooms, while Fabienne simultaneously rehearses a new film — a sci-fi piece about a mother and daughter — that keeps refracting what's happening between them in real life.
Kore-eda built his reputation on family films where nothing explodes and everything hurts. This one is no different.
