Kung-Fu Master!

Kung-Fu Master! (1988) is a French drama by director Agnès Varda that you can watch online on iFILM. At her daughter's birthday party, forty-year-old Mary-Jane (Jane Birkin) meets fourteen-year-old Julien (Mathieu Demy) — and neither of them can quite walk away.

Varda cast Birkin's actual family: Charlotte Gainsbourg plays the eldest daughter, Lou Doillon the younger one. The title refers to the arcade game Julien plays obsessively — there is no martial arts. What the film is really about is loneliness, the fear of growing older, and a feeling that respectable society would rather not acknowledge. Quiet and uncomfortable in equal measure.
