Synopsis
There's Good Weather in Deribasovskaya (1993) is a Russian action comedy you can watch online on iFILM — and the final film from Leonid Gaidai, the director who defined Soviet comedy with The Diamond Arm and Operation Y. The KGB and CIA call a temporary truce: an upcoming Gorbachev-Bush summit is threatened by the Russian mob dug in on Brighton Beach, New York.
Soviet agent Fyodor Sokolov, played by Dmitry Kharatyan, is teamed with American operative Mary Star, played by Kelly McGillis, and the two are sent to Brooklyn to find a crime boss known only as the Artist. Andrei Myagkov, Armen Dzhigarkhanyan, and Leonid Kuravlyov fill out a roster of familiar Soviet faces.
Shot on location in New York in 1992, the film lands in an awkward historical moment — the spy-parody formula intact, the Cold War that powered it suddenly gone. Stream There's Good Weather in Deribasovskaya (1993) on iFILM.
