Elevator

The car was built for a thirty-second ride, not an hour locked in with people you don't trust. A Wall Street trader, a TV host, a little girl, a security guard, a pregnant woman — while rescue crews fumble with cables somewhere above, the cramped space squeezes out everyone's worst instincts. Once the explosive is revealed, "who survives" gives way to a nastier question: what is each of them willing to do to get out alive.

The cast pairs Christopher Backus, Anita Briem and Devin Ratray with screen veteran Shirley Knight. The whole film stays in one set, and that restraint is the point — the dread comes from faces, panic and a countdown under someone's coat rather than from effects.
