Synopsis
Huesera: The Bone Woman (2023) is a Mexican body horror film you can watch online on iFILM, written and directed by Michelle Garza Cervera. Her debut feature took the top prize at Tribeca 2022 and announced a filmmaker with a precise, uncomfortable vision — one that draws on Mexican folk mythology to go somewhere most pregnancy horror never reaches.
Valeria has wanted a child for years. The moment she becomes pregnant, something shifts. Not in any way she can point to on a scan — more like a wrongness underneath her skin. Bones crack without cause. Sleep stops working. Figures appear at the edge of her vision. Her family tells her it's anxiety. Natalia Solián holds the film together through silence and physical unease, refusing to let the character seem hysterical while making it completely clear she is not imagining any of it. The huesera of the title is a figure from Mexican tradition — a collector of bones — and Garza Cervera uses her as a lens rather than a jump scare.
The horror here is textural and slow-building, rooted in the body rather than the dark. Stream Huesera: The Bone Woman (2023) online on iFILM.
